Signs Project

Appropriate signage is a key factor in the presentation of sites.  The object of the project was to introduce signs to meet the international standards of World Heritage Sites and that encourage appropriate circulation of visitors to protect the archaeology and to protect and educate visitors.

In 1999, PNT surveyed the site and found a variety of 77 different types and styles of signs and recommended that a standard style of sign be adopted for the Park.  The project also created a comprehensive locator map for the site which identified the recommended sign locations for primary and secondary trails within the Park.  In 2000, PNT produced and installed six interpretative prototypical signs  The new signs are more effective, historically accurate, durable, relevant to and visually compatible with the site.

Following PNT’s recommendations and prototypes, the Department of Antiquities of Jordan installed the additional signs required along primary and secondary trails.

PNT is now working on a project to develop, design and install improved safety signs within the site.
